PAIRO Tour 2007

By now, everyone has recovered from PAIRO's Health Professional Recruitment Tour; sleep has been restored and chaos has gently shifted back into the daily routine.  From Ottawa to Toronto, each stop was unique and brought many people together.  The total number of attendees was sent out by PAIRO and included 224 medical students, 249 residents, 22 established allied health professionals, 47 established physicians and 65 allied health students.  Hopefully the connections that were made during the five day tour have already materialized into community contacts and potential recruits.

As anyone who stopped by the ROMP booth would know, a backpack full of community goodies sat at our booth, enticing learners and physicians alike to enter the ROMP draw.  Well, it turns out that there were two lucky winners - three, if you count ROMP for all the support.  The communities donated so many wonderful items to be included in the backpack that we were able to divide the spoils and create two parcels to give to two lucky learners.  The draw winners were: Emily Austin, from Queen's University and Melissa Vyvey from the University of Toronto.  Each learner received her prize and we hope to see both of them again through ROMP placements.  Keep your eyes out for these two keen beans!

ROMP is thoroughly appreciative of the support that the ROMP communities bestowed through their donations. We were able to fill both packages with jackets, pens, tickets, candy, Frisbees, calculators, key chains, maple syrup, wine, tote bags, a lunch bag and all kinds of other goodies.

It is always fun to tour from booth to booth and peek at what the communities are offering.  This year's list of fund give-aways includes:

  • Beach ball
  • Apples
  • Dental floss head
  • Highlighter pen
  • Laughing pen
  • Notebooks
  • Chocolate covered popcorn
  • Candy in urine sample bottles
  • Clipboards
  • Calculators
  • Syringe pens
  • Glow stick necklace
  • Home made energy bar
  • Fishing lure
  • Jar opener/garlic peeler hand
